Following on from the traction and impact of the Burnout in Physiotherapy blog published online in 2023, Ky has become involved in the advocacy space, particularly around education and awareness of burnout in the physiotherapy profession, along with discussing strategies for mitigating the risk and improving the workplace / industry factors that may influence. This has included numerous podcast appearances, online interviews and discussions, and recently in 2026, the publication of an editorial in the highly respected Journal of Physiotherapy (Impact Factor 9.4). The Burnout in Physiotherapy Editorial (Wynne, 2026) article can be found online and is open access.

This editorial is highly evidence based, and builds upon the work and knowledge presented in the 2023 article. This editorial aims to not only shed light on a common and multifaceted issue in the physiotherapy profession, but to help start the discussion around mitigating the risk, and improving the standard of the industry and profession. There should be ownership of burnout at all levels, including from the individual therapists, the workplaces/managers, university level/training organisations, and the industry.

This article is highly relevant for all physiotherapists in all settings, students, university educators, and those involved in policy and guiding the future of the physiotherapy profession. Due to the similar work demands and requirements of many allied health professions, the information presented in this editorial may also be relevant to other professions.
