2025 in review (+2026 preview!)

2025 has been something.. here’s a brief wrap up and a teaser for 2026 at the end!

Not every year has big highlights or successes, and not every year is easy. I am lucky to have had some increasable highs this year, and also significant rollercoasters and challenges.. like many out there I’m sure. Here’s a few of the parts of the year I’ll look back fondly on.

  • Teaching.. I feel honoured to be a part of an emerging, high quality post-graduate physiotherapy program at RMIT, lecturing and tutoring over 3 subjects in 2025, including leading musculoskeletal units and educating on special interest areas including endurance running, youth athletes and more.

  • Education and advocacy.. Additionally, I’m proud to have continued my work in the advocacy space, partially through burnout education (formal and informal), along with future research involvement in this space (stay tuned in 2026). Finally my Resistance Training Principles online course (LearnResistanceTraining.com) has had great success, with regular enrolments and continued excellent feedback. I rolled out my first free online running webinar with great feedback to runners from 4 different countries all keen to upskill and improve. More to come in this space.. See below! I was also invited to speak on multiple running podcasts this year, sharing evidence-based knowledge, clinical pearls and insights for runners and health professionals! More to come in 2026.

  • Clinical work has varied this year, with travel, teaching and life commitments, however I’m proud to have worked with some excellent endurance athletes and runners of all levels. I’ve also been involved in rolling out VALD performance testing and educating fellow colleagues on this protocols and usability of this technology clinically.

  • Running – I’m back into the running scene personally, achieving 2 x marathons, 2 x half marathons and PBs in all distances. The big personal highlights are the debut marathon at Sydney (1st year as a major), and the big sub 3hour marathon at Melbourne this year (2:58). Hopefully lots more improvement to come in 2026 and beyond.

  • Travel – I was lucky enough to visit 8 countries (9 if you count Aus travel) in 3 separate trips in the first half of 2025. Travel has always been something I’ve valued, and fitting this in with time of life between work and life commitments was something I’m glad that I could make work.

2026 will be huge!

Those that follow my personal or professional social feeds, or have interacted with me over the past few months, will know what is coming. Personally, my wife and I are starting a family, welcoming our first child in the early part of 2026. If everyone’s advice is accurate.. I’m looking forward to one of the most challenging and amazing period of my life. Wish me luck.
